In reply to <a href="https://gospelworthdyingfor.com/the-hebrew-calendar-in-jubilees-and-enoch/comment-page-1/#comment-1358">Lenette</a>.

The best source for witnesses is the Dead Sea Scrolls which are the documented accounts of how the Zadok priests kept the calendar.

DSS 4Q320 Mishmarot A Fragment 1 states: there is a full moon on the 4th day of the week of Gamul in the first year and 4Q328 Mishmarot F lists the priestly families that will serve as the heads of the 4 seasons listing Gamul as the head of the first season (spring) of the 1st year of every 6 year priestly course.

On the first day of the 7 day creation week the earth was without form (H8414) and void (H944) before Yah said let there be light, dividing the light from the darkness like an equilux making the 24 hour day have 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. Yeshua was the first fruit of creation and the first fruit of resurrection. I think Yah added light the first day so He could see what he was creating going forward.

Gen 1:2-5
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.

The lights created on the 4th day sounds a whole lot like signs to create a calendar that would make things grow.

Gen 1:14-16

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Book of Jubilees 2:8-11

And on the fourth day He created the sun and the moon and the stars, and set them in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon all the earth, and to rule over the day and the night, and divide the light from the darkness. And God appointed the sun to be a great sign on the earth for days and for sabbaths and for months and for feasts and for years and for sabbaths of years and for jubilees and for all seasons of the years. And it divideth the light from the darkness [and] for prosperity, that all things may prosper which shoot and grow on the earth. These three kinds He made on the fourth day.

We pray this information is helpful in your calendar studies.

Shalom, Sherry Sanders

I have been reading this information. I just cannot see how day 4 of creation can be seen as the 1st day just because the sun and moon was created on that day. Yes it would become the way to tell the times and seasons for humanity who was not created yet, but God is light and He said it was Day 1 on day 1 when He started creating. If He wanted it to be known as day 1 on day 4 then He would have said so. I really think that is a bit of a human interpretation. Because we work according to God's 7 day week and the 7th day He rested and so should we on the Sabbath, but if His first day is day 1 then it should stay so. I don't think we must add to the biblical text that was not stated there directly. I do believe that God is a God of order. I am also very sure that Yeshua knew His own calendar and He was teaching on Sabbath in the synagogue. He also healed people on the Sabbath for which He was severely criticized by the religious leaders of the time. If this was the wrong calendar that Sabbath was not on Saturday, I am sure that we would have read this in scripture and He would have instructed the disciples to keep the Zadok Sabbath but he never did and neither did the disciples. I do agree that there is a fixed calendar that has been lost but how the Zadok calendar is interpreted should be in the light of Yeshua as He is the author of it all.

Hello Virginia. Thank you for your comment. I believe the day begins in light (morning), not in darkness, and that “evening-to-evening Sabbath” is a later rabbinic distortion, not the original Torah pattern (as I explain in the blog post). Nehemiah 13:19 does not overturn the broader witness of Scripture. The word “before” does not require an “evening-to-evening” Sabbath. If the day truly began in darkness, then the biblical rhythm of day and night, morning and evening, would be thrown into confusion. My article lays out why a day beginning in light is consistent from Genesis onward, and a single verse should be understood in the larger testimony of Scripture. Shalom, and thank you again for engaging with the study. On this point, we can agree to disagree. I respect your position, sister. Go in peace..
